The Handmaids of Mary

WHO ARE THE HANDMAIDS OF MARY?
They are a group of young ladies who desire to deepen their faith through a more profound knowledge of the different aspects of Christian life, especially in everything that surrounds the altar and the Liturgy. They will have a most profitable and enjoyable time with the Sisters: intellectually, spiritually and physically.
Aim
With the help of Mary, their Mother and their model, the Handmaids of Mary will:
- sanctify themselves
- have a high esteem and diligent care for all that surrounds the altar
Motto
God first served with and through Mary!
WHAT DO THEY DO?
The Handmaids of Mary is a girls’ group centred around the altar. They will have a very enjoyable and educative time, being able to participate enthusiastically in all the activities of the day, especially in: learning the theory and acquiring various skills for the preparation of liturgical ceremonies, for example: arranging flowers, care of church linens, preparation of vestments for Holy Mass, singing of Gregorian chant, etc… and all that surrounds the altar.
During the school year, every second month, meetings will be held. A virtue or another suitable topic will be explained, so as to fortify their Faith and to help them in their pursuit of virtue.
The Handmaids of Mary will learn home economics skills, such as cooking, sewing, crafts, etc.
Being models of good example and piety, the Handmaids of Mary are motivated by a true Catholic spirit, which renounces the false spirit and maxims of the world.
Games, as well as occasional outings and picnics, will be organised.
WHERE DO THE MEETINGS TAKE PLACE?
The meetings and activities take place at the Church of the Child Jesus and Saint Joseph in Rockdale, NSW.
WHEN DO THE MEETINGS TAKE PLACE?
During the school year, every second month, meetings of the Handmaids of Mary will be held on a Saturday, beginning on the 12th February. The day begins at 7.15am with Holy Mass and closes with Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament at 2.15pm.
WHAT ELSE SHOULD BE KNOWN?
The Handmaids of Mary will enjoy a festive formal lunch on the days of their meetings. We ask that each family provide a course for this formal meal.
